Most people think you need to be creative to put together a themed birthday party.

There is a lot of stress around putting on an expensive, exciting party and yet often kids are happy to go to the park with their friends.

A party can be as simple as grabbing some balls, heading to the park and collecting some round accessories such as plates.

Here are some tips for your child’s ball party.

1. Ready made ball pit

This can be a great option, especially if the weather is cold, wet or miserable. It may cost a little extra for everyone’s entry fee but they also cover catering so you don’t have to.

Buying a collection of balls can be added to any activity. If you have a jumping castle in your yard, add them to that. If you have a sand pit, then add balls for simple fun.

2. Bowling action

If you want a variation on the ball theme, head to the local bowling alley. It can even cater to younger kids with a bowling ramp to head their balls in the right direction.

3. Park play

Park parties can be as active or creative as you like, from kicking balls around on the field to face painting.

If you don’t consider yourself an artist, try making simple balls around kids eyes in different colours to look like basket balls, tennis balls, gold balls, even colour wheels. If you have older kids, they can help paint the little kids, too.

4. Cake shapes

Cakes can be a simple round ball with icing to colour or a rectangular ball pitch with action figures. We used an edible ball for the centrepiece on this one.

5. Accessories

The name of the game is simplicity.

· Round plates are easy so add to that a tablecloth with balls (or balloons) on them.

· Party hats are round so can help set the scene.

· Use your child’s toys to decorate a centre-piece with balls, action figures and the like.

· Balloons are round and reflect your ball theme, too.

Now you’re set for your child’s next party.
