The world has turned on itself: first the pandemic tried to reduce the harm humans are doing to it by pruning the population and now we are doing it to each other.

Just like playground antics, the big loudmouth bullies (Trump) point the finger at the quiet achiever bullies (China) who turn on the little kids (Australia). But it doesn’t stop there. Now the little kids are beating each other up (race wars) and shaking their fist at the only power source they can access (the police).

This is the immature defence of displacement at its worst. If you cant tell your boss to stop harassing you to ‘do better’, go home and yell at your wife and kids.

Now it has gone another step further, with minority groups hating on other oppressed groups for not defending them in the way they want to be defended (thanks Huffpost).

George Orwell might call this the modern approach to waging war on the enemy to keep the masses defenceless.

The more effective response might be to use a mature defence in the form of sublimation. This is where your boss is a bully to you and everyone else, so you form an action committee to go on strike.

While we are all name-calling (Karen – and by the way, where is the name for white men? Kevin, anyone?), we might look to the purveyors of this chaos that hold the power and perpetuate the lack of leadership.

Currently, the world is run by narcissists and bigots, where marketing floats to the top. While the spiritual leaders offer no hope because of paedophiles and further corruption.

It seems to me that the world order is lacking and could do with a revolution. So let’s stop the infighting and get organised against the real problem: a lack of substance with a focus on power and prestige at any cost.

At the risk of sounding like a scolding parent (Scomo), if we all had detention together we might work some things out in The Breakfast Club.
